Social: Facebook Page Cover goes Video


If you haven’t seen or heard… Facebook Page Covers can now be video! We are able to upload a GIF as our profile photo but we can upload a video file from 20-90 seconds on Facebook for our cover.

Wow! 😲 Sorry, not available (yet) for personal pages…

The specs from Facebook are:

Instead of a cover photo you can use a video. It can be 20-90 seconds and should be at least 820×312 pixels.

That’s a lot of seconds for any business or fan page to use – You can do a lot in 30 seconds!

My quick process for my cover photo video:

  1. I took a static image and separated the foreground and background into layers in Adobe Photoshop.
  2. Then, I imported the PSD file into Adobe After Effects to create a subtle zoom in and out effect for the background layer. 
  3. Finally, I completed the effect and I exported the video as a .mov file and uploaded.

Experience Tip:
You can create your video from any program or app. You can also take footage from your iPhone and edit right in the iOS, export the file and upload. There is a lot that you can do to grab your audience attention with this new feature. You can create a CTA or add an effect to keep your cover photo fresh, fluid and interesting. I feel like you can’t over do it though… Using all 90 seconds is the way to go so that you are not seeing an annoying playback or repeat of 20 seconds. Imagine the commercials or sponsorship that now can be done over time… hmmmmm 🤔… Enjoy and have fun!
